Some questions we get... Is there a Dress Code? Have you ever attended an event feeling either overdressed or under-dressed? We certainly have! It can be quite embarrassing and uncomfortable. If church isn’t a regular part of your life, you might be unsure about the dress code and worry about standing out. The good news is that you won’t! Our regular attendees and guests come from all walks of life, and their attire reflects that diversity. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! Is anyone going to acknowledge me? Whether we're at a church, restaurant, or store, it can feel uncomfortable when no one acknowledges us. We understand this, which is why our Plan Your Visit form offers the option for introductions to make your experience smoother, if you choose. The decision is entirely yours! Are my kids going to be safe? For many, their primary interactions with churches and children stem from troubling news stories about individuals betraying trust. Having taught your children to be cautious of strangers, it can feel contradictory to now ask them to "trust" a church environment. To address this, we adhere to practices and guidelines that prioritize healthy boundaries and foster safe church communities, even in the realm of digital networking. The Safe Sanctuaries initiative within the United Methodist Church aims to create secure environments for children, youth, and vulnerable adults, shielding them from abuse and mistreatment, while also raising awareness and facilitating important discussions within ministry teams. You can learn more about NM General Conference Safe Sanctuaries here. You may also read our Social Media Guidelines here. Will I be accepted? Many people wonder whether they will be accepted in various settings, like the workplace, church, or among friends. That's the purpose of our Plan Your Visit Page! It acknowledges that our sense of worth can be influenced by how we view ourselves, how others perceive us, or societal labels, leading us to feel unworthy of being in God's presence or fearing that a church or small group may not accept us. The encouraging truth is that regardless of any labels you carry, God lovingly calls you His Beloved. Romans 8:16: "For the Holy Spirit makes God's fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God's beloved child!” As a church, we recognize and affirm this, welcoming you just as you are. While God invites us to grow and deepen our faith in love, compassion, and grace through Jesus, we simply invite you to join us on that journey, wherever you may be on your path. Am I going to have to sing or clap? How often do Americans find themselves in environments where they're encouraged to sing and clap out loud, aside from a concert? It’s interesting that we as a Church often gauge worship by crowd participation but overlook the same for evangelistic (reaching others for Christ) efforts. You can rest easy knowing that you’re not obligated to sing, clap, or sway; instead, you should worship as the spirit leads you. If you feel moved to clap, that’s fantastic! Want to sing? Go for it! It's perfectly fine to cry or simply sit in silence, as many in our congregation do. Ultimately, worship is about approaching the cross, and how you express that is a personal experience between you and God. You can learn more about Worship within the United Methodist Church here! Where do I go? I may get lost... We get it. No worries! There are volunteers everywhere, so look for someone with a friendly smile. • Spiritual Tools and Resources | Wesley hymn devotions for Lent and Easter

← Back to Resources SHARE: Copy link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Right Arrow Wesley hymn devotions for Lent and Easter These devotions are based on Charles Wesley's hymns, which help us to think about God's grace through Christ's life, death and resurrection, as we journey through Lent and Easter. Easter and Lent are important seasons of spiritual reflection and growth. Lent, a period of 40 days leading up to Easter, is a time of repentance, prayer, and fasting as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ's resurrection. It is a time to focus on self-examination and drawing closer to God through acts of discipline and devotion. Easter, on the other hand, is a celebration of new life and hope in Christ, marking the culmination of the Lenten season. Through Lenten devotions such as prayer, fasting, and service, United Methodists seek to deepen their relationship with God and grow in faith, ultimately leading to a joyous celebration of resurrection on Easter Sunday.
